i'm curious (was reading the other thread about book studies and got to pondering) who had a book study group in your home and what was it like.
and did you go to any homes where they made you take your shoes and socks off and put on slippers or anything like that?.
we had one in our home....got counciled about having the demonic disney movies out, but for the most part it was a pretty good experience.
I never had the book study at my home, but, as Eyeslice says there was great reluctance to hold the group at their home, so when the regular home was not available for a couple of weeks the question was raised at the group and everyone was looking at their shoes digging in bags etc,... so I shouted up. 'You can all come up to my place if you like'. Most ignored me, a couple laughed outloud! Now my place has plenty of parking and at least 1/3 of the group lived in my lane. The conductor ignored me when he saw the reaction. Snobs!!! Our place is scruffy none of the furniture matches and I can never get all the dog hairs vacuumed up. But they really would have been welcome, and my non-JW husband would have made them welcome too. Their loss.

It weighs over 1lb so I don't want to post abroad.

i no longer consider myself a christian.. i feel that there may be a god, but if there is, he's not the god christians worship, for such a god makes no sense.. if as the bible says we need to have faith in jesus to get everlasting life,,, why would this god make it so misleading and leave so much room for ligitmate doubt,,, by having this information passed on to us by men and organizations that have not been totally honest????.
why would he use the bible to relate this information, when the bible is so full of errors????
the evidence is very clear that the bible has been tampered with over the centuries, so that a reasonable person can have legitimate doubts about the bible's origins.. also, why would god use men who are so prone to dishonesty, to convey this lifesaving information?.
Hi Frankiespeakin, I agree with you, I do believe there is a Creator, though I have no logical explaination for this. Also I am more and more convinced that the Bible is too confusing and muddled to be of much use if we are looking for 'truth', or specific unequivocal messages and instructions from God. This must be the fault of human beings, because, if God exsists and wants us to know some thing via that method, surely He would have made things a bit easier to follow? I made a post a few pages back in 'Friends' looking at this subject, specifically regarding Jesus. Its a lot like doubting the Watchtower, once we are brave enough to look something straight in the eye, and to critically examine it, it starts to fall apart.I personally don't feel like I've lost anything, it's just a new perspective isn't it? And its very interesting.

this may or may not help, so if you don't want to question everything you thought you believed about jesus, don't look.... http://www.bartleby.com/196/.
especially look down the list of contents and read the section on human scapegoats.. i have no axe to grind, i have geat respect for what we believe we know about jesus.but remember these examples are mainly long pre-christian traditions.. also please excuse the very non-pc language, it is an old book.. shirley.
Hi Devon, I had a look at the Christ Conspiracy excerpts online.Very interesting.
'Mouthy', I also believe in the Creator. I just think it's interesting that there has obviously been some 'cross-over' of traditions and probably oral history, make of it what we will. Here's a thought.... to the making of books there is no end... most of the 'books' in the Bible were written after Ecclesiastes. No axes here, just an observation.Happy thoughts...

Hello there, I'm actually from the south west of England, but I live in North East Scotland. Hey Gadget, I used to visit my sister in Weardale Co.Durham and( I used to live there) go to the assemblies at Newcastle.Told all back here how much better it was there under cover than in freezing Perth football stadium, we got a talk on how we should go to the assemblies we were assigned to as lots started to go to N'castle.
